Erica buys the fabric from small Japanese mills, often only a few bolts of each. The shirts are cut and sewn at a small factory in Nagano, in the Japanese Alps, where everyone changes into slippers at the door and the stitching gets checked under a magnifying glass. Many brands buy Japanese cloth and sew it somewhere cheaper. We keep it all in Japan.
Every pattern has a story: a lucky cat, a New Year's dream, the haze on a mountain. From across the room they look like texture. Up close, they're a conversation.
